Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In the opening sequence of horror genre that I'm doing, relates to other real media products. Nightmare on elmstreet is an example of a movie which my opening sequence shares similarities. Asides from the fact that they are both horror, they both use the concept of revenge. Revenge is achieved through murder, which is included in our opening sequence. Another similar factor is the use of hidden identity. Although Freddy Krueger's face is meant to be burnt in nightmare on elm street, his identity is still hidden through his face. A mask has been used in my opening sequence as a convention of horror and has also been used to hide the identity of the killer.

In the opening sequence we have included a nightmare about revenge, which is another similarity to this movie. Firstly, the title to my opening sequence is malevolence which means revenge, and this immedienetly suggests to the audience that the genre will either be a thriller or horror. Due to the setting being in a dark empty place, further on connotes emptiness and foreshadows that there will be a problem taking place. After seeing the killer and the mask, confirms that there will be something horrific and unexpected taking place. After seeing blood, which connotes death, pain, knives and danger, these are connotations which fits into my opening sequence.
